RDP housing observation

The Reconstruction and development programme (RDP) housing sits within a public housing program run by the government which assigns free housing to those who are unable to afford housing. This programme was initiated in 1994 to tackle social problems across South Africa however lacks any community programmed spaces. As a result, residents (especially youth) hangout at the walls as a gathering site.

Bridgeport Homes

Bridgeport Homes, named after its host community, is a row of 115 homes in Bridgeport built in 1943. These 2 story row houses have 141 units and were originally designed to assist all-white poor Italian, Lithuanian, Irish and Polish communities with affordable housing and remain the last projects built in Chicago with the intentions of being for only white residents.
